Why did you adopt a Romanian rescue via EverMore?
We already had our beautiful Pancho, whom we rescued from Halfway Home. He was the best thing that had happened to us and we are still sad that we didn’t find him sooner. After a few years we felt we had enough space and time to help another rescue and that’s when we met Bella. She was the last one left [from her litter] but I tell her that’s because they knew her [human] mummy was coming for her so they saved the best ’till last.
How has your dog settled into life in the UK?
Bella was such a scared girl when she came home – wouldn’t come in the house, didn’t understand what stairs were, or toys. We would make the smallest of movements and she would drop to the floor and wet herself every single time. I hired a trainer who specialises in deep rooted issues with dogs that have been abused and it helped us help her. She has come along so much now. Our house is full of fun and playing all the time now, as well as cuddles; she is the most loving dog I have ever known. From the moment I open my eyes in the morning to when I close them at night, Bella’s face is always there smiling at me, wanting a cuddle.
What would be your dog’s idea of a perfect day?
Bella is very food motivated, so her perfect day always starts with breakfast, followed by a run in our garden, then cuddles and another nap. She loves to walk up the lane and I think her perfect walk would be if I walked at a running pace with her as she does not like to slow down. Back home for a big ham bone, more cuddles and playtime. Of course, another snack before bedtime.
