Why did you adopt a Romanian dog via EverMore?
My last dog, whom I got from [EverMore’s rehoming partner] Halfway Home was put to sleep as he was riddled with cancer. I looked on the Halfway Home’s site and Holly seemed to speak to me as if she wanted me to take her home.
How has your dog settled into life in the UK?
She is an excellent little dog, who was so nervous at first; but with help from a treat box she has gained confidence in leaps and bounds. From the public shelter to winning a second place in a child handler class at a dog show with complete strangers – I was so proud of her I burst into tears. She is such a fun dog and loves her zooming with her friends and giving us never ending conditional love.
A poem I wrote about Holly:
I got thrown out of a Romanian door,
My paws and belly became so sore,
Then I was found by Marilyn Angell from Evermore,
Whom treated and fussed me galore.
At the public shelter some time with friends I spent,
Then to England on the Happy Bus we all went,
To a place called Halfway Home,
Where the fuss and food I could not condone.
Then four days later two people passed me by,
I knew that they had a tear or two in their eye,
As their last dog had gone to heaven to live in the golden sky.
Then a harness and lead went on me,
Out of the kennel in a field to be free,
I ran round in circles in complete glee,
Then I jumped straight on to the man’s knee.
Adoption papers were signed everything done,
As these people’s hearts surely I have won,
At first I was scared nervous and shy,
Then gained confidence as the year went by.
I play with my friends on the field every day,
And know all the peoples as I have now found my way,
No longer a lonely waif and stray,
As I know mum and dad will never send me away,
As mum and dad live and adore me more each day.
What would be your dog’s idea of a perfect day?
A grain-free dog breakfast with bacon added. Then to play with her dog friends on the field. Also Holly loves her little human friend Jack. She also loves doing zoomies and going to Ingoldmells with us on holiday as we would never ever put her in kennels (my friends and I look after each others’ dogs if necessary).
